All orders will be filled electronically via email or Dropbox. Please contact the Reference Librarian if you require hard copies to be mailed to you. Additional charges will apply.

Some materials may be too fragile to be subjected to any duplication process.

Copies and/or images of items in the Collection may not be deposited at other institutions.

Payment Information

Upon receipt of your order, an itemized statement of services will be prepared by the Gilder Lehrman Institute.

Depending on which state you live in, sales tax may apply to all PDF and TIFF orders. Nonprofit institutions must submit a sales tax exemption form or a 501(c)3 letter in order to avoid such sales tax.

All fees are non-refundable and subject to change without notice.

International customers paying by check must send payment in US dollars drawn on a US bank.

Advanced payment by check or credit card is required. If paying by check, include your invoice number on the check and send to:

The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History
170 Central Park West
New York, NY 10024

Once you have submitted your payment, please allow at least 2–4 weeks for the completion of your order. Next-day rush services may be available for an additional fee.

Large orders of more than 30 pages may take an additional 1–2 weeks.

Turnaround-time is dependent upon the number of requests received and on the complexity of individual orders. Requests are processed in the order in which they are received.

Copyright Notice

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
